SokoGrid: Market Intelligence for Pricing, Sourcing and Risk ManagementMarket Intelligence and Data Systems

SokoGrid turns fragmented agricultural market price records into validated, high-frequency intelligence for pricing, sourcing, market monitoring and risk analysis, supported by machine learning and predictive analytics.

Timely and consistent agricultural prices are essential for traders, producers, buyers, financial institutions and development programmes. Yet information from rural and informal markets is often scattered across sources with different reporting schedules, quality controls and geographic coverage.

Sauti East Africa developed SokoGrid from its market intelligence and Market Insights work to organize these datasets into a more reliable analytical resource. By combining historical market series with ongoing updates, forecasting and structured access through dashboards and APIs, the platform supports practical decisions across East Africa’s agricultural value chains.

The Challenge

Market participants face uncertainty not only about current prices, but also about whether a price is typical for the season, whether it represents a local supply disruption or whether neighboring markets show a different pattern. These questions matter for crop sourcing, storage, transport decisions, procurement planning and exposure to volatile markets.

Fragmented information sources make such comparisons difficult. Some markets are underrepresented, records arrive in different formats, and unreliable observations can distort trends. Without effective data validation, analysis can amplify rather than resolve uncertainty.

Institutions therefore need a service that brings together market coverage, historical context and analytical tools. They also need information that can be incorporated into their own systems, rather than viewed only as isolated static reports.

The Project

SokoGrid integrates agricultural price observations from multiple partners into a standardized, quality-controlled market intelligence platform. Sauti combines data engineering with automated checks, AI-assisted validation, forecasting methods and geospatial market information.

Its capabilities include:

  • Current market prices: recurring price observations for agricultural commodities across local markets;
  • Historical benchmarking: seasonal patterns, long-term comparisons and evaluation of price movements over time;
  • Short- and longer-term forecasts: predictive tools to help users assess plausible price directions and market risks;
  • Market geography: mapping of geolocated markets, trade corridors and cross-market relationships;
  • Data validation: automated and AI-supported identification of potential inconsistencies in incoming observations; and
  • System access: dashboards and APIs for institutional analysis and integration.

The combination is intended to make data from geographically dispersed and informal market systems more comparable. For example, a user can compare prices and seasonal norms across markets, monitor deviations and examine how price patterns in one location relate to neighboring markets.

The platform also extends Sauti’s capability in economic and spatial analysis. Its potential users include agribusinesses managing sourcing costs, programmes assessing market functioning and institutions developing tools for market-risk management.

Results

Documented platform coverage (2026 product materials)

  • 300+ agricultural commodities represented in the market intelligence resource.
  • 200+ geolocated markets across East Africa.
  • Nine East African countries represented in the platform’s stated coverage.
  • 33+ data partners contributing to the underlying information network.
  • 28 million+ price observations covering wholesale and retail agricultural markets.
  • 13 years of historical data available for comparative analysis and forecasting applications.

These figures describe the scale of the data asset and product capabilities as reported in Sauti’s 2026 product sheet. They demonstrate capacity in market-data aggregation, data quality management and predictive modelling, not a quantified economic impact for SokoGrid customers.

The platform creates a foundation for market-monitoring dashboards, sourcing decisions, risk analysis and integration with other data systems. Learn more at SokoGrid.
